Guangdong Academy of Sciences Foshan Industrial Technology Research Institute (hereinafter referred to as "Foshan Industrial Research Institute") is a high-tech innovation and incubation industry base jointly established by Guangdong Academy of Sciences and Foshan Municipal Government. It is also the first local industrial technology research institute in the plan of Guangdong Academy of Sciences for regional industrial development.

Foshan Industrial Research Institute adheres to the tenet of "respecting science, respecting creativity, leading industries with science and technology, and creating value with knowledge", and implements the operations under the model of being "led by GDAS, supported by the government, jointly established by the academy and the city, and operated in the market". The Institute puts into practice the goal of GDAS for development of an incubation system, moves around the major technological needs for of optimization and upgrading of the industries in Foshan, and combines the strategic, forward-looking, disruptive and advantageous innovation resources from GDAS and domestic and foreign sources. With focus on four major areas, including "intelligent manufacturing, electronic information, new materials and bio-health", it "bases on the industrial chain, accelerates innovation chain, integrates the capital chain and puts into place the policy chain". Through the new R&D institute operation and management model that highly combines these “4 chains”, it explores new ways to promote both introduced R&D achievements and incubation results and to integrate technology finance into industries.

Since its establishment in October 2018, Foshan Industrial Research Institute has made every effort to accelerate the transfer and transformation of high-tech achievements in Foshan. By facilitating and promoting the construction of an international high-tech innovation and incubation industry base that is based in Foshan, serving the Pearl River Delta, covering the Greater Bay Area and facing the whole China, Foshan Industrial Research Institute promotes the cultivation of emerging strategic industries and the optimization and upgrading of traditional industries. It helps Foshan City to accelerate the construction of the National Independent Innovation Demonstration Zone, the important base for equipment manufacturing industry on the west bank of the Pearl River, and national manufacturing industry innovation center, thus boosting the economic and social innovation and development of Foshan City. It plays a demonstrative and leading role in implementing Guangdong's innovation-driven development strategy and building a national technological industry innovation center.
