In the afternoon of September 12, GDAS and Nanhai District Machinery Equipment Industry Association of Foshan City held an exchange and connection event at GDAS Technological Innovation Park. The above dialogue took place in this exchange meeting. A representative from a ceramic enterprise in Foshan and an expert from the Institute of Intelligent Manufacturing had a warm discussion on how to realize and build a digital factory in the traditional manufacturing industry.

At the exchange meeting, representatives from the enterprises and the experts had face-to-face communication on the development of machinery equipment industry in Foshan. Experts from GDAS institutes, including the Institute of Intelligent Manufacturing, the Institute of Rare Metals, the Institute of New Materials, the Institute of Welding Technology, the Institute of Materials and Processing, and the Industrial Analysis and Testing Center, shared their wonderful technological achievements with the enterprise representatives. GDAS also provided an exchange form for both sides, with the focus on collecting the pain points of the enterprises in technology upgrading and industrial transformation, so as to provide targeted help and services at a later stage.

About 50 enterprise representatives from the machinery equipment industry in Foshan participated in the exchange meeting on that day. It was reported that Foshan, as the leading city in Guangdong Province to build a trillion-yuan industrial belt on the west bank of the Pearl River, ranked No.2 in the province in terms of total industrial output value, and most of the value was contributed by Shunde District and Nanhai District. The machinery equipment industry was the largest pillar industry in Nanhai District, and the tax revenue from this industry in 2015, 2016 and 2017 accounted for 60% of the total tax revenue of Nanhai District for three consecutive years. In 2018, the district’s total industrial output value reached more than 200 billion yuan.

Machinery equipment industry was mostly considered as a traditional manufacturing industry. Facing a major evolution for eliminating the manufacturers with underdeveloped production capacity, resetting the market order and re-adjusting the market strategy, the machinery equipment industry had an urgent demand for new technologies and new materials. This exchange meeting was extraordinarily meaningful. It not only strengthened the communication and exchange between GDAS and local industry associations, but also provided scientific and technological support for technological innovation and industrial upgrading in important local industries, addressed the challenges in industry development, and helped important local industries to realize industrial transformation and upgrade.

Enterprise representatives said that this trip to GDAS was very fruitful, and they were inspired for upgrading and transformation of their current industry.

It was learned that GDAS would continue to organize “point-to-point” exchange and connection between its own research institutes and enterprises in the province from relevant industries. With focus on efficiency and practicality, GDAS would put into practice its work to promote the transfer and transformation of scientific and technological achievements.
