The online signing ceremony for the agreement on industrialization of the "Atomic Force Microscope (AFM)" project between Guangdong Academy of Sciences and Belarusian National Academy of Sciences was held on November 24 at the Sino-Belarusian Joint Innovation Center for Industrial Technology ("Sino-Belarusian Center"). The ceremony was attended by Chen Weimin, President of Guangdong Academy of Sciences, Li Dingqiang, Vice President of Guangdong Academy of Sciences, Sergei Chizhik, Vice Chairman of the Presidium of Belarusian National Academy of Sciences, Xiao Renjun, President of Foshan Industrial Technology Research Institute of Guangdong Academy of Sciences ("Foshan Industrial Research Institute"), Fedosiuk, Director of the Materials Science and Practice Center of Belarusian National Academy of Sciences ("BNAS Materials Center"), Yang Junke, First Secretary of the Science, Education and Culture Department of the Chinese Embassy in Belarus, among other leaders and guests.

At the ceremony, Chen Weimin, President of Guangdong Academy of Sciences, said that in September this year, China and Belarus formally established the "all-weather comprehensive strategic partnership", and the bilateral relationship between the two countries was elevated to a new height. As a result of the "Belt and Road" initiative and the close and friendly cooperation between the Guangdong Academy of Sciences and Belarusian National Academy of Sciences, the Sino-Belarusian Center has received strong support and help from various departments and leaders of both sides. The signed project is a key step in the cooperation between the two institutes on international scientific and technological achievements, which is of milestone importance, and more projects will be promoted for cooperation and landing in the two countries subsequently. Vice President Chizhik of Belarusian National Academy of Sciences thanked Guangdong Academy of Sciences for its efforts in actively promoting scientific and technological cooperation between the two institutes. He expressed that the Sino-Belarusian Center, as a new type of R&D institution jointly built by the two academies, is an important platform for the implementation of scientific and technological cooperation, collaboration and innovation, which is highly valued by the governments of both sides at all levels. He also expressed high recognition and appreciation for the specific work that the Center had been doing in promoting Sino-Belarusian technological exchanges and implementing the transformation of achievements, and also hoped that more projects would be implemented in the future. Vice President Chizhik especially mentioned that the Belarusian National Academy of Sciences would set up a working group for the AFM project together with the Sino-Belarusian Center to implement the specific work arrangements, such as enterprise registration and experts' visit to China.

Xiao Renjun, President of Foshan Industrial Research Institute, said that the research and development of high-end AFM belonged to the national important development projects of China and Belarus, and the project would be market-oriented in its operation and registered in Guangdong as a joint venture. Both R&D and production would be carried out at the same time to achieve significant profits from operation and realize mutual benefits and win-win for all parties involved in the cooperation. He stressed that the Sino-Belarusian Center would continue to carry out comprehensive cooperation in the incubation of technological research achievements and international talent training and exchange.

Yang Junke, First Secretary of the Science and Technology Department of the Chinese Embassy in Belarus, highly recognized and praised the innovative exploration in transformation of international scientific and technological achievement between Guangdong Academy of Sciences and Belarusian National Academy of Sciences. He said that the Center has made considerable achievements and accumulated rich and valuable experience in the transformation of scientific and technological achievements with the Belarusian side during the COVID period, and was a "forerunner" in the incubation of international scientific and technological achievements by Chinese and Belarusian institutions, enterprises and universities in the future.

The signing ceremony went smoothly in a warm and friendly atmosphere among all parties. Xiao Renjun, President of Foshan Industrial Research Institute, Fedor Shuk, Director of BNAS Materials Center, and Zhang Zhibo, Vice President of Foshan Industrial Research Institute, signed the agreement on behalf of the relevant parties.

Atomic force microscopy, which is a kind of scanning probe microscope, has the advantage of being able to observe various samples at high magnification in a variety of environments and obtain three-dimensional morphological images of the sample surface as well as status information. The AFMs designed, developed, produced and sold by the team of Academician Chizhik of Belarusian National Academy of Sciences are widely used and well recognized by research institutions, universities and enterprises in many countries and regions in Europe and Asia. After field research, the Sino-Belarusian Center engaged many experts to jointly study and evaluate the AFM models developed and produced by the Belarusian team. It is recognized that these AFMs are capable of benchmarking with international top-ranking products in various key parameters and have high technological advancement and broad market prospect. Foshan Industrial Research Institute of Guangdong Academy of Sciences and the Materials Science and Practice Center of Belarusian Academy of Sciences will set up a joint venture in Guangdong to design, develop, produce and sell new models of AFM and related core components, in addition to producing and selling the existing models in China.
